Originally, "Mandheling" is considered to be Arabica cultivated in some areas of Sumatra. Coffee that can be called "mandheling" is produced only in Sumatra.

“ Onanganjan ” is the name of the region and also the name of the variety.
At the end of the 19th century, the Typica cultivars that had been cultivated in Sumatra almost disappeared due to the severe damage caused by the rust disease (disease of coffee trees) and the subsequent replanting of disease-resistant varieties .
However, in the high altitude areas around "Lake Toba" in northern Sumatra, there are areas where the same cultivar has survived, albeit in small numbers.
“Onanganjan” was born from this background.
In addition, a single variety that collects only Typica traditional varieties, which is less than 1% locally.
In the Onanganjan area, where various varieties are mixed due to the impact of rust disease, it is very difficult to commercialize coffee.
To identify the cultivar, we went around to each farmer and marked each tree of that cultivar with a red ribbon and asked them to harvest and refine it individually.
This daunting effort paid off, and we finally reached commercialization.
It's a story that is nothing but moving.
